The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde has tasked the good people of the state to hold him accountable for every operation of the Amotekun security outfit.
The governor who said the same during the #EndSARS protest displayed this strong commitment while speaking at the passing_out ceremony of the Oyo State Pioneer Amotekun Corp held at the main bowl of the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo stadium on Wednesday.
He recounted that the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), codenamed Operation Amotekun, was launched on the 9th of January,2020, and is undisputedly the first of its kind with the mission of relentlessly pursuing to provide the highest protection and safety to the people of the state.
“Development is most likely to be dead, hypnotised, or engraved in an insecure state. Therefore, our new Amotekun Corp will work routinely 24 hours and will patrol on major roads,” the Governor shed more light on the need for and mode of operation of the agency.
Governor Makinde reemphasized his stand on the security framework of the country stating categorically that he had always maintained that the introduction of effective state police is the only way to get the best out of the security system of the country.
He however charged the 1500 first_intake of the agency to be a good example that would exhibit professionalism as they all come together to fight a common cause.
The ‘Grandfather of the Amotekun Corp in Oyo state’, His Excellency Governor Makinde went on to say that the Amotekun agency is the response of the Yorubas to invaders and security threats, so, the people should trust them by holding him responsible for their actions.
He hinted the attendees that he would present the 2021 annual budget to the Oyo state House of Assembly this Monday.
