Stop celebrating the death of security operatives, DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has appealed to Nigerians to shun the wayward celebration of security operatives’ death killed in frontline battle by insurgents.

Boko Haram: Zulum shares grief of 11 Slain Security Personnel, says Keen on Baga.

Director-General of the organisation, Yusuf Bichi, stated this at the 2020 International Youth Day celebration organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Abuja.

The event had “Youth Engagement for Global Action: Together Building a New Nigeria Economy Post COVID-19” as its theme.

The DSS boss urged Nigerians to learn to support security operatives in defending the sovereignty and integrity of the nation as opposed to chastising them for not living up to individual expectations.

To him, the DSS like every other security agency is saddled with the responsibility of making sure that citizens who engage in legitimate businesses, live in a peaceful environment to pursue their dreams and ambitions.

He opined that “It is not good that our youths, our mothers, the entire citizens will continue to condemn security agencies”.

“They are doing so much; they keep awake when you are asleep, they are in the rains, they are in the sun”, he said stressing the relevance of these agencies.

“Someone that is killed in Borno or elsewhere is the father of someone, he is a husband of a wife and an uncle to someone”.

Emphasizing the need for Nigerians to be fair and modest in the way they assess the security agencies, he said, “So you do not celebrate over the death of someone because you think they are not doing so much. They are in very challenging conditions”.

He, however, solicited the support of Nigerians in this precarious security situation saying “we need your prayers, we need information from you because in every conflict, all parties are concerned, every party goes on defense, and all parties try to win.”

Earlier, Comrade Solomon Adodo, the national chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) who appeared on the national radio, Radio Nigeria, had charged Nigerian youths to wake up to take actions and stop excessive unjustifiable criticisms of government decisions and projects.
