Youths dominate entrants as INEC online registration hits 2million

Young persons between ages 18 and 34 have dominated the online voter registration launched by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) eight weeks ago, which has a total of 1,877,552 entrants.

A statistics of the exercise released by the commission showed that 686,583 entrants are between the ages of 35 and 49 years; 248,389 entrants are between the ages of 50 and 69, while 39,454 entrants are 70 years and above.

The statistics, which was contained in a statement by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, showed that out of 2,215,832 entrants that have so far registered, 1,605,220 are males, while 1,282,758 are females.

Over 2 million Nigerians have registered since the commission launched the portal.

The statement said: “The number of fresh registrants since the launch of the online registration portal on June 28, 2021 has now exceeded two million. As at 7 a.m today (Monday, August 23, 2021), the number of new registrants is 2,215,832.

“Similarly, four weeks ago, the commission commenced the in-person or physical registration as well as the completion of online pre-registration in our state and local government area offices nationwide. The number of completed registration now stands at 430,363.

“Detailed distribution of the online and completed registration by state/FCT, age, gender, occupation and disability has been uploaded on the commission’s website and social media platforms for public information.”
